“Smallville” star Tom Welling will be reprising his Clark Kent/Superman role for The CW’s five-episode Arrowverse crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.
That makes his the third Superman star to feature in the crossover alongside current “Supergirl” series Superman Tyler Hoechlin, and former “Superman Returns” star Brandon Routh who will be reprising his Clark Kent role AND playing his regular Ray Palmer character from the Arrowverse.
“Smallville” ran for 10 seasons between 2001-2011 on The CW and its easier incarnation The WB and followed Clark Kent’s journey from small-town high school hero to a superhero living in Metropolis. Welling only partly put on the suit for that show’s finale.
Marc Guggenheim, executive producer says: “For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
The Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover will begin with “Supergirl” on Sunday, December 8th followed by “Batwoman” on Monday, December 9th and then “The Flash” on Tuesday, December 10th, and then have a few weeks break and close off with “Arrow” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” both on Tuesday, January 14th.
The casting comes as former “The X-Files” veteran Mitch Pileggi and “Stranger Things” actress Cara Buono have scored recurring roles as ancient alien beings named Rhama Khan and Gamemnae respectively in the upcoming fifth season of “Supergirl”.
